Build confidence – plan a programme for GCSE practice papers

Every maths department uses past/practice papers in Y11. Without a careful plan, it can be dull and demoralising for all concerned!

Students tell us they feel like failures because full papers are too hard.

Teachers tell us it’s hard to ‘get round’ all the students and to maintain interest when they ‘go through’ the questions.

In response, we’ve worked with some teachers to develop an organised and strategic approach to past/practice GCSE papers ‘Improve Maths Structured Approaches to GCSE practice papers 2017’ . The approach will support problem-solving skills and build confidence to ‘have a go’ at different types of exam question.

Our resources describe the programme in detail and we have supported by folders of examples. The image here shows an extract.
